I grew up always wanting to be a teacher. I was going to give my students the experience I never had growing up. I couldn’t comprehend, my math skills were subpar, and I couldn’t pass a test to save my soul. But, when I graduated from college, I was bright eyed and bushy tailed. I was going to change the world and every student was going to succeed. My classroom was going to be filled with real world experiences, hands-on experiments and we were going to be doing so many fun activities. Well, let me tell you…..it didn’t turn out how I planned.

I was placed in a resource ELL position and wasn’t given a curriculum to follow. My students were tested day in and day out to make sure they were performing. Where were all the holiday parties and celebrations? On top of that, I was trying to communicate with students who just entered the country. I always felt like I was re-inventing the wheel every year for every subject. I have become burnt out and wanted to make a change. I realized that wanted to help teachers who were in the same position as me. I wanted to help them from becoming burnt out because our students need us. Our students deserve better!
